Perfume Collection

Posted by Rebecca

This is my current perfume collection, not necessarily my favoutires but the ones I'm currently using. I think my all time favourite is Dior Hypnotic Poison, but I'm determined to finish at least one of these before purchasing a new one! So on to the collection...

Agent Provocateur Maitresse Purse Spray
Excerpt from their site - This Eau De Parfum has passionate top notes of White Lotus Petals and delicate nuances of white Ylang Ylang, caressed by the pure essence of Osmanthus core, and immersed deep into Jasmin Sambac.

This is more of a night time/sexy perfume, but I still enjoy wearing it in the day. The scent is very 'grown up' and feminine to me. The packaging is very luxurious, housed in its own velvet pouch, it's certainly a glamorous addition to your handbag.

Britney Spears Radiance
Excerpt from their site - Luscious berries and dewy petals unfold to reveal a radiant heart of luminous pure white flowers, lit from within by the glow of precious amber, woods and sexy musk.

Gaudy bottle aside this is great summer fragrance, it's fruity but also with a hint of musk. To me it's very similar to Givenchy Very Irresistable (a perfume I used to wear a lot) but a lot cheaper.

Gucci Guilty
Excerpt from their siteGucci Guilty is a warm yet striking oriental floral with hedonism at its heart. The middle notes are an alluring concoction of heady lilac and geranium, laced with the succulent tactility of peach. The base is patchouli, the hallmark of a Gucci fragrance.

This would also be considered more of a night time or heavier perfume, again it's very feminine and grown up. This is my favourite perfume bottle, it's luxurious but also sturdy, you can throw it in your bag without worrying about the lid falling off or the bottle cracking.

Guerlain Insolence

Excerpt from their siteGuerlain Insolence is a surprising fruity, floral fragrance. With a glimmer of panache and a gleam of non-confirmist verve, its new interpretation of Violet is for the woman who feels no need to conform.

I've heard a few people describe this a 'granny' scent, but I love it. To me it just smells like violet, like the parma violet sweets in fact. There are some other notes I guess, but to me the primary smell is violet.

Michael Kors Very Hollywood
Excerpt from their site - Michael Kors Very Hollywood contains shimmering jewels of mandarin and iced bergamot. Scene-stealing gardenia follows suit with a decadent performance of award-worthy glamour.

I must admit I half bought this because of the bottle - it's so sparkly and pretty! I really don't know how to describe this scent, I would say it's more a summer scent. It just smells fresh and clean to me, nothing special.

So what are your favourite perfumes. From my current collection my favourites are the Gucci and Agent Provocateur. Do you have any of the ones I own, what are your thoughts on them?

Thanks for reading.

PS- Sorry for the awful and almost non existent descriptions, I really can't describe scents. I just smell the perfume if I like it I don't tend to look much further into it.

Current Skin Care

Posted by Rebecca

After what seems like a lifetime of suffering from and failing to tackle my blemish prone skin, I feel as if it's currently better than it has been for a very long time. At the end of July I finally decided to visit my GP regarding my skin, she prescribed me a solution of erythromycin and zinc acetate. This is a 'watery' solution that comes in a small bottle with a sponge top, to be applied twice a day. My doctor recommenced changing my skin care to using just a tea tree face wash. So I took her advice and visited my local Superdrug after the appointment. I picked up the Tea Tree and Peppermint Foam Face Wash and began using it immediately. After a week or so I felt as if using a face wash alone wasn't quite enough to fully clean my skin and so I headed back to Superdrug and picked up the matching cleanser & toner and the moisturiser. I've been using these consistently for over a month now and have seen great results. In the last week and a half I've had no new blemishes, which is pretty amazing for me. I'd highly recommend checking these out if you have blemish prone skin too. They're very reasonably priced with most items being £2.99 (the whole range is currently on offer - 2 for £3.99). This is probably the cheapest and most effective range I've used for many years. The list of products I've tried over the years is never ending. All the popular things - Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish (worsened my blemishes a lot!), Oxy, Clean & Clear, Clearasil, Neutrogeona....I could go on.

Have you found any great skin care products recently? I'm looking for a new eye cream at the moment, any suggestions?

Put a Ring on it

Posted by Rebecca

Nothing to do with beauty or make up but I felt like sharing nonetheless. I'm hoping to redecorate my bedroom and have been searching for ideas and little bits and pieces. I really love Alex's style from HRH Collection, I can only dream of making my room look as chic as her apartment does. If you know of any other great interior design blogs/websites please let me know!

As many of you may be aware Habitat has gone into administration and are thus having a huge sale, everything was at least 50% off in the store I visited, I recommend visiting if you can. I picked up a few bits: some mini garland lights, tealight holders, a pretty glass and the plate below all for £10.40. I decided to use the plate to display my rings, rather than leaving them hidden away in a box.

I know a few of the rings are bit rusty/worn, I threw away about 5 after taking these photos. I've only just started painting my rings with clear nail varnish (Sally Hansen Mega Shine) and it really does work! Most of the rings are from Topshop, Miss Selfridge, New Look or Dorothy Perkins - nothing expensive.

Let me know what you think, and do you have any great ways of displaying your jewellery?

Only 10 Products Tag

Posted by Rebecca

I saw this tag on Naomi's blog and have seen a few videos on youtube and thought it was a great way to see which products you actually love/use everyday.

Basically you have to decide which 10 products you would keep if you had to give up the rest of your make up. So after a lot of deliberation here are my 10...

1. Bare Minerals Mineral Veil - I'm using this as a setting powder at the moment and I don't love it to be   honest; but when my usual Maybelline dream matte powder ran out I decided I should use this up first before  repurchasing.

2. Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer - I just repurchased my second tube of this, it really is a great concealer for the price.

3. Urban Decay Primer Potion - I only started using this a few months ago and it's amazing. My eyeshadow always used to end up creased by the end of the day but with this it stays perfect all day.

4. Models Prefer Eyebrow Pencil - I have very light eyebrows so really need to use a pencil everyday, this is a great shade for me. I never seem to be able to find a good match in an eyeshadow.

5. L'Oreal Super Liner - Everyone seems to talk about and it is definitely worth the hype.

6. No7 Intelligent Balance Mousse Foundation - This is my all time favourite foundation but has sadly been discontinued now and I still haven't found a replacement that's as good. I stocked up on a few when I found out they were stopping it and still have another full one left for now while I hunt for its replacement.

7. MaxFactor Flawless Perfection Blush in Mulberry - I love this shade it reminds of the colour Kate Middleton tends to wear.

8. Urban Decay Naked Palette - I've used the palette almost every day since buying it and I love it. Great for every day wear and special occasions.

9. Guerlain Kiss Kiss Straus Lipstick in Rose de la Reine - A fairly recent purchase this lipstick is a great texture and colour, I'll definitely be checking out more Guerlain products.

10. - L'Oreal Double Extension Beauty Tubes Mascara - I like this mascara as it's the only one I've found that doesn't smudge on me, I prefer the effects of other mascaras but they always end up smudged. Does anyone know of any other good 'tubing' mascaras?

I tag all of my readers to do this, if you don't have a blog please let me know your 10 in the comments.

Golden Oldies...

Posted by Rebecca

....vintage Estée Lauder make up catalogue. Whilst my boyfriend was tidying up at his home a few weeks ago he told me he came across an Estée Lauder catalogue from 1987! I was amazed and wanted to see it straight away, an excitement he certainly didn't share. I was intrigued to see how much the style make up had changed in the last 24 years. The thing that struck me immediately was in fact the opposite, to me it doesn't seem to have changed a great deal and could easily be mistaken for less that 10 years old. I've included a scanned version of the catalogue below.

Let me know what you think? Do you think the brand/packaging/style of make up has changed a lot?

If only the prices were still the same.....

Please visit my Flickr for clearer images and let me know what you think in the comments :)

New Layout - Please vote

Posted by Rebecca

I've been contemplating changing the layout of my blog for a while, but I'm still undecided as to which is best. My new design or this original one. So I thought why not ask you guys, as you're the ones who read it after all! Below is a photo of the new design I created and also a snapshot of this current design. Please let me know which you prefer by voting at the bottom of the page. Thanks.

This is the new design, the header still need tidying up a bit but it would be very similar.

This is obviously the original on I have right now.

And side by side ....

Sorry the photos aren't very clear, but hopefully you get the idea. Thanks for voting :)

June Ins & Outs

Posted by Rebecca

So it's my first ever 'Ins & Outs' post, I'm going to try and do them every month as I love reading these posts. I hope everyone had a good June :)

Ins

1. TRESemme Instant Refresh Dry Shampoo - This really is better than Batiste to me, it smells better and it's less 'powdery'. I don't really use it for its purpose as I wash my hair every day anyway, but it's great to add a bit of volume or to refresh at the end of the day.

2. Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream - I've loved this product for years but this month I've been using it nearly everyday for a lip balm and it's great. I tend to put it on at night and my lips are really soft the next day.

3. Avon Mattifying Mineral Face Cream SPF 30 -  I was attracted to this product as it said 'mattifying' and I have very oily skin, especially in the summer. I've been using it everyday on top of my moistuiser, it sinks in really quickly and I haven't noticed my skin becoming any oilier or my foundation lasting any less cause of a build up of product.

4. Leighton Denny Crystal Nail File - I really love this! It's without doubt the best nail file I've tried., and I've tried a lot. It makes filing your nails so quick and easy and has a lifetime guarantee!

5. Nubar 2010 - This nail varnish is amazing, it's really hard to describe. I think I'm going to do a blog post about it with photos. It's a top coat and when applied sort of looks like gold flecks that change colour in the light.

6. ELF powder brush - I've only had this for about a week so maybe it shouldn't be in here but I've loved using it. I use it to apply my foundation and then power. It's such a great brush for full coverage. It's really soft and dense and best of all it only cost £3.50.

7. ELF Luscious Liquid Lipstick (Baby Lips) - Again I've only had this for a week but it's also great. It's a really nice colour, not sticky at all and has a peppermint flavour. The applicator makes it really easy to apply too. I wish I'd got more!

Outs

Only a few things this month and they're all hair products!
1. John Frieda Go Blonder Lightening Spray - So this was a bit of a disaster product, I think. I can't say for sure. I had been using this for about a week on my roots, as they needed dying. It worked really well, they were definitely lighter. However when I then dyed my hair, the same way as I have done for well over a year now, my roots turned a gingery/brassy blonde. This product is the only reason that I can think of that caused this. Maybe you're not supposed to use it before dying? Has anyone else experienced this? I pretty much have a full bottle left now and I'm not sure if I want to use it again!

2. Umberto Giannini Backcomb In A Bottle - I was really hoping a lot of this product, but it was disappointing. To me it's just like spraying hairspray on your roots. It leaves them felling sticky and hard, and the volume doesn't last more then 5 minutes for me. Maybe I'm using wrong, I'm not sure. I followed the instructions but it just doesn't work for me.

3. Dark and Lovely Ultra Cholesterol Mask - This may seem and odd product for me to buy as I have blonde hair but I had seen SWalkrmakeup recommend it (I think) and my friend told me it should work brilliantly on my hair. It really doesn't. It doesn't feel like a mask at all and leaves my hair feeling quite dry and course. The consistency of the product is really thick and creamy so I thought it would be great but as soon I washed it off I could already feel my hair wasn't as soft as normal. Then on drying it it seemed dryer and in worse condition than when just using a normal conditioner.

So that was June! It was an exciting month for me as I started blogging! I'm so glad I did and I can't believe I have 26 followers now! I thought I'd be writing to myself for a while. Thanks to everyone for following and reading, it means a lot.
